Trouble in Brightvale was an event that ran from August 27 to September 3, 2018.
Synopsis[]
On August 22, 2018, mysterious blue portals began appearing across Neopia, along with a wizard, named Magon, who claimed to be responsible. Later on, Neopians learned that the portals were intended for time travel of some sort. However, Magon was unsure of the ramifications of sending pets through the portals, so he got volunteers to test them out and report back with the results of the experiments. But, at the end of the event, Magon was unable to complete his work on time and faced trial in the Court of Knowledge.
Participation[]
Towards the beginning of the event, players would receive the Brightvale site theme for signing up to participate.
As previously stated, Neopians were able to have their Neopets (excluding UCs) jump through the portals, transporting them to a random place in Brightvale, and possibly inflicting the pet with a status effect. Once they report back to Magon using the "Return to Brightvale" radio button, he rewarded them with a prize and an experiment log.
Players could jump through a portal once every 6 hours, up to 4 times per day.
Pet Effects[]
- Nothing happens.
- Colour changes to either Blue, Green, Invisible, Mutant, Red, Speckled, Yellow, or Zombie.
- Movement decrease by 10%
- Defence stat decrease by 10%
- HP stats decrease by 10%
- Intelligence stat decrease by 10%
- Strength stat decrease by 10%
- Hunger level either increases or decreases by one
- Contracting a disease (Achy Head, Bloaty Belly, Blurred Vision, Bubbles, Cricky Neck, or Fuzzitus)
- An on-hand item disappearing
When Trouble in Brightvale concluded (or sometimes, when jumping through a portal with one or multiple of these effects still active), all Neopets went back to their original state, with all colour changes, stat changes, and health back to what they were before.

In addition to the event steps above, players would also receive one blank tome for each day of participation. The tomes could only be read with a special lens from the NC Mall.
