Shops
From NeoPets Guild
No real money should be used to get items on the NeoPets site. Anyone trying to get you to spend real money or asking for credit card information on the NeoPets site is trying to scam you.(Excluding the brand new nc mall!)

One of the activities in Neopia is buying and selling virtual objects. There are NeoPet run shops, and every user account can have its own shop. In your account shops, you get to decide which of your objects you would like to sell and for how much.
[edit] User Shops
You can use your shop to earn neopoints. One way is to buy things for fewer neopoints and selling them for more. The trick is finding the cheap items that someone else will be willing to spend more to get. Or, you can get some of the "freebies" (see helpful hints) and sell them. Also as you "wander" around the NeoPets site, you will sometimes "find" things on the floor. (That is, you'll get a message on the top of a page that says you just found something.) You can keep those items, use them, give them away or sell them.
The price in the description of an item can be very misleading. Some objects are very popular or very common, so they cost much more or less than you might guess.
[edit] Setting Your Prices - Selling Objects
So you have some items that you want to sell in your shop... BEFORE YOU EVER PUT A PRICE ON YOUR ITEM, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE research that item with the Shop Wizard. Don't just run the search once... refresh it a few times, using the maximum price of the cheapest asking price for your object... Make your item worth 5 or 10 NP less than the lowest price you find.
The trick is to price things low enough that people will want to buy them, but high enough that you make a profit (or at least don't lose neopoints).
Is there one price that is crazy lower than the rest? BUY IT! Put it into YOUR shop and make a crazy profit. There is no harm in this. You haven't done anything wrong. You are just giving someone what they want for the item! Don't feel guilty! If their crazy low price was a mistake, they will neomail you and at that point it is really up to you how you remedy the problem. I usually give the item back. But VERY rarely is this ever the case... These tips are the best way to turn a profit in your shop. It's how I got my shop to a size 60! Good luck!
[edit] Shop Wizard - Buying Objects
If you want to buy a specific item, use the Shop Wizard. The Shop Wizard will search a sub-set of the user shops and let you know who is selling that item and the number of neopoints that they set as the price. After you use it once, remember the cheapest price for that object, and go back and re-search, using the cheapest price as your maximum price. This way, you can often find objects much cheaper.
The Shop Wizard is also useful for finding a good range of prices for items in your shops.
More hints on how to stock and use your shop to raise neopoints coming soon...
basically, BUY LOW and SELL HIGHER
[edit] Half Price Day
The third day of every month is Half Price Day for the official NeoPets shops. (User shops are not affected.) The official shops often have very different prices from user shops -- even on regular days. So, you might want to use the wizard to find out a normal range. You can get some very good deals at the NeoPets shops.
[edit] Bargaining
The NeoPet shopkeepers are willing to bargain. That is, they will sell items for less than the prices they say at the start. Usually, you can get things for about three-quarters of the initial price. However, if you spend too long bargaining, the shopkeeper may have sold the object from under your nose!
RJ 19:25, 7 Feb 2005 (PST) suggest offering 1/2 of what they say to start and then each time the shop keeper gives a price back, offer back something half way between what the shopkeeper says and your last offer. As an example, if the shopkeeper's original price for something is 100 neopoints (np), start by offering 50 np. If the pricekeeper comes down to 90 np, offer 70 np (which is halfway between 50 and 90). Then if the shopkeeper says 80, offer 75 (halfway between 70 and 80). This offer (75 np) is 3/4 or 75% of the original price of 100, so there's a good chance the shopkeeper will accept it or something very close. And now you just saved 25 neopoints!
[edit] Galleries and Super High Prices
Anything priced at 100,000 neopoints or higher cannot be sold in a user shop.
Some users set up an alternate shop or gallery to show off a collection of items. They have no intention of selling these items.
However, sometimes the user is willing to trade these items as long as you are willing to offer something special. Normally, if you look at the description near the top of the shop page, the owner has left an explanation of whether it's a gallery or instructions about how to arrange for a trade.
[edit] Adding Items to Your Shop
Items priced at 0 will not show up when people visit your shop. Items cannot be priced at higher than 100,000 (see the section on gallaries and super high prices). You must click the 'update your shop' button in order for objects to come up. Check using the 'shop front' to see if objects come up.
