In Neopia, even the Neopets have pets. They are called petpets, and there are many different species. Luckily, you don't have to feed and care for the petpets. (I guess your Neopet does that.) Your pet's petpets can own petpetpets, in turn.

Acquiring PetPetsEdit

Petpets are treated as items, so you can buy, sell, or trade them at will. You can also paint petpets different colors at the Rainbow Pool if you have a special petpet paint brush. There are even petpets you can make at the cooking pot.

Many shops in different worlds sell PetPets, including a shop in each of these areas:

• The Rock Pool on Mystery Island sells Aquatic petpets
• Ye Olde Petpets in Meridell sells Meridellian petpets

• Peopatra's Pet Pets in Sakhmet in the Lost Desert
• Fanciful Fauna sells the petpets in Shenkuu
• Faerieland petpets sells the most angelic petpets!
• The Pirate Pet Shop on Krawk Island sells petpets for dubloons rather than NP!

• Legendary Petpets in Altador
• Moltara petpets in moltara

Each NeoPet may only have one pet. According to the Neopets FAQ, more than one would be too much work for your pet. However, your petpets can get their own little critters to take care of, called petpetpets. See the list of species for more information about the types of petpets.

How Petpets Affect YouEdit

Your petpet can be quite useful to you in gaining avatars where you need to keep a certain petpet attached to your pet for a certain amount of time. Also, if the PPL (Petpet Protection League) chooses your petpet's species for the week's petpet award, you could win a trophy if your petpet is aged enough.

On the Petpet Arena on the Darigan Citadel, you can have your petpet battle several others. If you win, you could increase your petpet's level and win a trophy!

If you try to awaken the Turmaculus in Meridell, and you succeed, your petpet may get eaten, and if you do you will get the avatar for the Turmaculus! Unfortunately this will very rarely happen and you can also lose a petpet in the process.

By clicking your Neopet and going to the Quick Reference page, you can click on your the Petpet and interact with the Petpet by naming it and speaking to it; You may also unequip your Neopet's Petpet on this page.
