Lab ray

From NeoPets Guild

The lab ray is a laser, contained within a secret laboratory. It is owned by a mad scorchio scientist, hidden deep under the sea. To get there and use it, one must first collect all 9 pieces of the Secret Laboratory Map, and view the Secret Laboratory section of the game Treasure Maps.

Once you have unlocked it, you can "zap" your pets daily. When you zap them, they change. Beware, some of the changes may not be ones you like.

The Lab Ray Scorchio is Yellow (answer to the Daily Puzzle 31st day of Swimming).

[edit] Obtaining the Map Pieces

The pieces of map are normally expensive; Because of this, the autions seem like the best place to start. The pieces usually start at about 2,000 nps, in comparison to the 40,000 to 80,000 NP anywhere else. Do the following:

  1. Look for a map piece that has NO bids on it.
  2. Check to make sure that you don't have it alredy.
  3. Place a bid at 10,000 nps. This does seem high, however, this is nothing compared to the regular cost. No one will see the price and outbid you (Only someone checking a certain user's auctions would be able to find out). This way, you have a better chance at getting it at a cheap price than having a bidding war.
  4. Sit and wait. If someone does happen to outbid you, just wait. Find another one; this avoids a bidding war and paying for more.

Estimated cost: 90,000 nps.

Trading post cost: 540,000 nps.
Shop wizard cost: 654,990 nps (from mall)

Estimated savings: 564,990-450,000 nps.

For users who use the Trading post/Shop Wizard, It is usually cheaper to buy the pieces seperately, rather than together.

Map pieces may also be found randomly on "The Floor".

[edit] Petpet Laboratory

There is also a petpet lab ray, owned by the crazed scorchio's petpet Kookith. The pieces cost between 1000-2000 nps, much cheaper than the regular Lab Map.

Neopets does warn against it's use however, with these rules:

  • The Petpet Protection League frowns upon experimentation on and zapping of Petpets. Once your Petpet is zapped, it will automatically be disqualified and will be unable to win the PPL award. They are very strict about this.
  • Zapped Petpets appear to be immune to any form of Petpet Paint Brush. The folks at the Petpet Puddle are looking into this, but it doesn't look like they'll have a solution any time soon.
  • It has been noted that when removing a Petpet that has been zapped, it reverts back to its original form. No one knows why that is... except the Kookith. But he's not telling and really couldn't if he wanted to.
