Neopets has two different types of message boards: general and guild's.

[edit] General Message Boards
The general message boards, also known as NeoBoards, are topic based and can be used by anyone with parental permission or who are over the age of 13. Users who don't have this permission or are under the age limit are not allowed to see or post on the NeoBoards. To use them, click on the "boards" link on the left menu bar (or here). The main boards page also has links to the neo rules, chat preferences and definitions of available smiles.

[edit] Guild Message Boards
Each guild has its own message board that only members can use (read and post). Since this wiki is about the guilds, feel free to put a link to your guild's message board here:
These boards can be used to organize guild events, to communicate with other members, to help each other out and more!
[edit] Preferences
You can choose some things about the way your postings (to both general and guild message boards appear). To set your preferences, click on "boards" (on the left side menu), then select "chat preferences" from the menu across the top.
[edit] Avatars
Here you can select the picture that appears next to each of your postings. This picture is called an avatar or "avi" for short. There are basic avatars that everyone can use, and others that you must earn. See the article on avatars for information about how to earn the right to use additional avatars.
[edit] NeoTitle
This is the text or slogan that will appear under your avatar on each of your postings. You can pick "none" or one of the pre-set sayings. Some examples are
- Creator of my own little world...
- Curious Cybunny
- Master of the Game Room
- Proud Nerd
[edit] Text
Set your default text formatting in the box labeled NeoHTML. Put the NeoHTML commands you want to apply to your text around the phrase "NeoHTML". Examples:
- [font c=purple s=3]neoHTML[/font] - slightly larger than normal text in purple
- [i]neoHTML[/i] - all your text in italics

[edit] NeoSignature
You can also set your signature in the chat preferences. That's the text that goes at the end of each of your postings. You can give a short advertisement for your guild, enter a favorite quote or something else.
[edit] Other Settings
The other settings in chat preferences change what you see.
- NeoBoard Language - Will you see only the messages in your preferred language or in all languages?
- Font View - Do you want to hide other people's font effects?
- View NeoSignatures - Do you want to see other people's NeoSignatures
Remember that hiding these things does not make them go away, it just keeps you from seeing them, if they were annoying you.
[edit] Testing
It's a good idea to test your "new look" on the Avatars/Neosignatures board. People there will understand, if you didn't get it quite right. You can ask for their advice, if you need help.
